Sustainable Energy on Samish -- Exploratory Discussion Group
In mid-October, 9 islanders got together to discuss how to make Samish Island as sustainable as possible in terms of energy. Folks are interested in being as energy efficient as possible, using energy from the sun, wind, and ground (geothermal, ground source heat pumps, etc.) as much as possible, etc. Folks noted that there are now quite a few financial incentives out there for solar and wind power production. Puget Sound Energy will buy energy produced from the sun and wind at a retail rate, e.g., 18 cents per kwh, or even 54 cents per kwh if one uses solar panels produced in WA. (These should be available in a few months). The group would like to continue to explore the possibilities, and has invited a local wind engineer, Terry Meyer, to speak with us on December 3rd at 7 PM at the Samish Island Fire Hall on Halloran Rd. All are welcome to attend. If you wish to attend, please RSVP as soon as possible to Steve, xxx-4488, so we know how many chairs to set up, refreshments to prepare (if there is time), etc.
